Coming soon: in development

Electronic Oil, Garbage, Ballast Water, biofouling, and ISPS record books are coming soon. They are in development and are not available in WaterTightVM today. Paper annex books remain the record you should keep using.

What operators still do on paper

Oil, Garbage, and Ballast Water Record Books are still bound volumes for many ships. Corrections are hard to explain, and shore cannot see whether yesterday’s operation was recorded until someone photographs a page. Inspectors look for missing codes, overwritten lines, and no trail of who changed what.

A cupboard of annex books, a photocopier for the office, and a scramble the night before port state control is still the working method. Some fleets add a standalone electronic log that does not share vessel context with inspections or the deck logbook.

What is planned, not what you can use now

The planned design, once the module is released, includes:

  • operation-code entries with the fields each code requires;
  • master verification with an extra factor;
  • amendments that keep the original values;
  • a true-copy PDF for inspection;
  • paper fallback when the electronic book is unavailable.

Cargo checks are under development as well. Cargo Operations is a separate area. The Annex II statutory book is planned as its own module when it ships, and it is not available now.

WaterTightVM will not issue a flag Declaration, and these books are not UK type-approved by themselves.

Deck logbooks are a separate module and do not replace MARPOL record books.

Frequently asked questions

Are MARPOL electronic record books available in WaterTightVM today?
No. Electronic MARPOL, ballast water management, and ISPS statutory record books are in development. They are not available to use yet. Cargo checks are also under development.
Does WaterTightVM issue a MARPOL electronic record book Declaration?
No. The flag Administration or recognised organisation issues any Declaration. WaterTightVM will not issue one. When statutory books exist, the plan is to store a copy of a Declaration that has already been issued.
What should we use until this is released?
Keep the approved paper book. It stays the authoritative record until electronic books are released. Register interest by booking a 30-minute call if you want to hear when the work is further along.
